Taking inspiration from the story of Mammootty's new film Karutha Pakshikal Mammootty Fans & Welfare Association (MFWA) and Mammootty Times in association with Little Flower Hospital & Research Centre and Eye bank Association Kerala, are launching a new project named KAZHCHA 06-07 in order to extend free eye care services to thousands of neglected people in the society.

 

Fr.(Dr.) Sebastian Vadakumpadan, Director, Little Flower Hospital & Research Centre, Angamaly said that concern to this project a special training will be given to the selected members of MFWA on primary eye care and cataract identification at Little flower hospital, Angamaly.

The film Karutha Pakshikal tells us the story of painful experiences of Murukan, a socially and economically underprivileged, who roam around for the treatment of his totally blind child Malli. According to Mr.Chandrasenan, the patron, MFWA their intention with this project is that no one should go blind due to the inability in accessing eye care services just because of the financial constraints.

 

     

This project also includes various programmes to prevent childhood blindness in the society. One of the major activities related to this is distribution of free spectacles to the children from socially and economically backward families. The special fund received from the office of the president of India will be utilized for this purpose.MFWA claims that this is a unique project that has happened ever before in the country in the name of an actor's fans association.

Under this project, around 10,000 people will be receiving free eye treatment and 1000 poor patients will have the opportunity to undergo cataract surgeries free of cost at Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly.   The first eye camp related to this project will be organized at Vadakara on 30/07/06 . . The actual cost of each of these surgeries is around Rs.8000/-. In addition to this, all eligible patient, who are selected for surgery, will be given free accommodation, food, medicines and conveyance
