The Department of General Surgery provides a comprehensive surgical expertise and cover seven days a week,365 days a year. The department consists of two surgical units headed by a senior consultant general surgeon each with vast experience and outpatient clinic on six days of the week, both in the morning and in the evening.
One senior consultant and at least one specialist surgeon usually manage these clinics. Diagnosis and treatmentof a wide variety of surgical problems from the common conditions such as herniae to the rare tumours are routinely undertaken.

 

Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

 

The most modern forms of investigative facilities and treatment modalities are used for the benefit or the patients. Minimally invasive surgery, otherwise known as keyhole surgery is practiced by the department. Upper and lower gastrointestinal video endoscopy is also available. The department is an exponent of short stay and day care surgery whereby patients undergoing a major surgery can go home within 24 hours of the completion of the surgery. The department also runs special clinics for hernia and thyroid diseases on designated days.
